What are the requirements to obtain the RUC in Ecuador?

Natural people

  • Day care centers:Bring the original and one (1) copy of the ministerial agreement.
  • Emancipated minors:Present your public deed, if the voluntary emancipation is issued by a notary. Also, it could be the judicial sentence that is issued by a competent judge or the marriage certificate, if your identity card does not reflect your marital status.
  • Non-emancipated minors:Bring the identification document of the minor’s legal representative.
  • Notaries: Presents the appointment that is issued by the National Council of the Judiciary.

  • Carriers:Present original and one (1) copy of your title as qualifying.

Authorization

  • Natural person: You must present the identity card of who is carrying out the process, one (1) copy of the taxpayer’s card or passport, the authorization letter from the taxpayer and a refugee visa or credential.
  • Legal person: You must carry one (1) copy of the identity card or passport, the signature of the authorization of the third party that appears in the form RUC 01-A or RUC 01-B, and the visa or refugee credential of the legal representative.

Steps to get the RUC

  • You must have the form RUC-01-A and RUC-01-B signed by a withholding agent.
  • Bring one (1) copy of the official registry, decree, resolution or ordinance where the creation of your public institution is published or approved.
  • One (1) copy of your institution’s retention agent appointment.
  • Bring the withholding agent’s voting certificate (from the last electoral process).
  • You must bring an original and one (1) copy of the return from one of the last three months prior to your registration date, regarding electricity service or consumption of drinking or telephone water.
  • Present original and bring one (1) copy of your proof of property tax payment. It can be from the previous or current year.
  • Bring the original and one (1) valid copy of the lease contract as of your registration date.

Private Companies

  • You must have the form RUC-01-A and RUC-01-B signed by the legal representative.
  • It has an original and one (1) certified copy, registered by the Mercantile Registry, of the public deed of domiciliation or constitution.
  • It presents an original and carries one (1) certified copy, registered by the Mercantile Registry, of the appointment of the legal representative of the company.
  • It has an original and one (1) copy of the data sheet, which must be issued by the Superintendency of Companies.
  • Present original and carry one (1) copy of the identity card, passport or citizenship, of the legal representative of the company.
  • Take the voting certificate (from the last electoral process).
  • You must bring an original and one (1) copy of the return from one of the last three months prior to your registration date, regarding electricity service or consumption of drinking or telephone water.
  • Present original and bring one (1) copy of your proof of property tax payment. It can be from the previous or current year.
  • Bring the original and one (1) valid copy of the lease contract as of your registration date.

Who should get the RUC?

All persons, whether natural or legal, can obtain the RUC. Those who are interested in starting or carrying out economic activities in Ecuador, occasionally or permanently. They must be rights or property owners to be able to pay their taxes.

Exceptions

  • Citizens who have income through some dependency, this is what we refer to as wages earned at work.

Private companies and foreigners without identity card

  • The first two digits refer to the code of the province where the RUC number is issued.
  • The third digit will always be 9.
  • From the fourth to the ninth digit, they must be consecutive numbers.
  • The 10th digit is a check digit.
  • The last three digits must be 001.

Public companies
