What is the FACH?

The Chilean Air Force (FACH) is the air branch of the Chilean Armed Forces. Its work is to defend, maintain and guarantee the national security and sovereignty over the airspace of the Chilean Republic.

Its current commander-in-chief is the General of the Air Arturo Merino Núñez. He took charge of the Military Aviation School in 1928. He was concerned with organizing various aerodromes throughout Chile, particularly towards the north of the country to serve the needs of civil aviation and the Air Force itself.

The Air Force was created by Supreme Decree No. 1,167, of March 21, 1930.

Requirements to enter the FACH

The requirements to enter the FACH will depend on the stage of the process in which you are. Next, we will indicate the requirements according to the stage:

Requirements that are checked in the startup phase

  • Be Chilean in accordance with numbers 1 and 2 of Article 10 of the Political Constitution of the Republic.
  • Be 18 years old as of January 1 of the year of admission.
  • Be under 23 years of age on January 1 of the year of admission.
  • Be studying or have passed the 4th year of High School.
  • Present concentration of grades from approved High School courses.

Requirements that are verified in the pre-selection phase

  • Have a minimum height of 1.60 m in men and 1.56 m in women.
  • No piercing or expansions.
  • No visible tattoos when wearing regulation clothes (includes swimming trunks for men and one-piece bathing suit for women).
  • Single, divorced or widowed.
  • Without children or in a state of pregnancy.
  • Present a medical certificate proving good health to take a physical ability test.
  • Have health and psychophysical skills compatible for service in the Chilean Air Force.
  • Present a Background Certificate for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.
  • Possess your Military Status up to date, presenting a certificate that proves such condition issued by the Canton of Recruitment or General Directorate of National Mobilization. In case of effective fulfillment of the Military Service, have been discharged with Military Valer and Good conduct.
  • Not being convicted, prosecuted or with an order to open an oral trial or prosecution for a crime or simple crime, which is accredited with a Notarial Affidavit.

Entry requirements

  • Have been selected at the end of the application process.
  • Be 18 years of age on January 1 of the year of admission.
  • Maintain the status of single, divorced or widowed.
  • Without children or in a state of pregnancy.
  • Have passed the 4th year of High School.
  • Deliver the High School License.
  • No piercing or expansions.
  • No visible tattoos when wearing regulation clothes (includes swimming trunks for men and one-piece bathing suit for women).
  • Have complied with all the Stages of the Application Process.
  • Present compatible health and psychophysical aptitudes for service in the Chilean Air Force.
  • Not to be convicted, prosecuted or with an order to open an oral trial or prosecution for a crime or simple crime.
  • Provide truthful records throughout the process.

FACH application dates

For the Aviation School, the process begins between the end of August and the beginning of September, and ends in the month of December. In the case of the School of Specialties, the process begins in July. Both require:

  • Knowledge exams and psychological tests.
  • Determination of personal aptitudes.
  • Determination of physical-medical aptitude.

Salary at the FACH

Young people graduate from these schools with the rank of officer of the respective branch, together with their specialization. And, as they belong to the institution, they have a guaranteed job vacancy, unlike what happens in other careers, where finding a job can be a concern.

Recent graduates from officer schools receive a gross salary of more than $ 800,000. Although this is increasing as they go up in rank, to exceed $ 3 million when they reach the rank of Colonel or its simile.

It should also be considered that the uniformed have the option of residing in public housing, due to frequent transfers. Where they have to cancel a minor maintenance, which can reduce their monthly expenses.

FACH School

The Chilean Air Force has a set of schools, which we will describe below:

Aviation school

It is the campus of Higher Education. Its mission is to execute the comprehensive training process for Aviation Cadets. Instructing and graduating them as Officers of the Chilean Air Force.

School of Specialties

The “Sargento 1º Adolfo Menadier Rojas” School of Specialties is the establishment designed to carry out the training process for the Permanent Staff that the Chilean Air Force requires for the fulfillment of its mission.

Air Warfare Academy (AGA)

It is the higher education organization that the Chilean Air Force has. Whose task is directed to the formation and qualification of the Officers for their performance as Commanders of Units and Advisers of the Command in the institutional or joint Staff, through the development of educational activities, of investigation and of extension.

Aeronautical Polytechnic Academy

The Aeronautical Polytechnic Academy «General de Brigada Aérea Hugo Fuentes Fuentes» is the Higher Education Institute of the Chilean Air Force.

NCO Training School

It is the body in charge of delivering new knowledge and skills to the Permanent Staff and the Administrative Civil Employees.

Military service

It is the incorporation of citizens into the Armed Forces for a specified period to acquire knowledge, achieve skills and obtain basic training as a soldier. Being able to actively participate in National Defense and support the country in cases of internal emergencies or catastrophes.

Professional Troop Soldier

A Professional Troop Soldier is a highly trained combatant to perform ground operations as a rifleman, light or medium machine gun operator; selected marksman, grenade launcher or mortar; or motor vehicle driver.

Races that are dictated

Aviation school: The specialties of War Pilot, Aeronautical Engineers, Antiaircraft Defense, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Administration are carried out.

School of Specialties: The institute prepares students as higher level technicians in the Air Defense, Air Crew, Maintenance and Armament, Communications and Electronics, and Administrative ranks, in charge of civilian and military professors.

Air Warfare Academy: In the AGA, the Officers are formed and trained for their performance as Commanders of Units and Advisers to the Command in the institutional or joint Staffs.

Polytechnic Aeronautical Academy: It is in charge of training the Officers in the careers of Aeronautical Engineering, Antiaircraft Defense, Electronics and Administration that the Institution requires.

NCO Training School: courses for Major and Supervisory NCO. Educational Supervisor, Maintenance Inspector, Technical Instructor, Aerospace Safety, and others, as required.

Military service: Those who are selected will not only be able to receive Military Instruction, but will also have the possibility to level their school education studies and receive job training. Likewise, they may pursue a military career within the Air Force, as a Professional Troop Soldier or enter one of the Parent Schools.

Professional Troop Soldier: Future FACh Professional Troop Soldiers begin their training as students of the Advanced Air Military Courses at the School of Specialties, an academic instance in which their initial training is standardized.

Study time at the FACH

In the School of Aviation there are four years in which this institute imparts intense leadership programs to its Cadets.

While in the Specialty School it is for two years. Through a rigorous comprehensive academic training program that combines academic, military, physical and value aspects.

In the other schools, it will depend on your performance.
