For tourism.

If you go to Chile because you are requested by a Chilean company to work, these are the requirements to enter Chile:

  • Letter from the employer addressed to the Consul that justifies the hiring.
  • Employment Contract (notarized, legalized and translated, if applicable).
  • Professional Title (if necessary).
  • Criminal Record Certificates. Medical certificate.
  • Valid passport.
  • 4 passport size photos.

For business

If your goal is the businesses that can be done in Chile, gather these requirements to enter Chile

  • Be a legitimate occupant of the home.
  • The goods or services produced cannot exceed the amount of 1000 UF.
  • They cannot work more than 5 people who do not belong to the family.
  • Any activity can be carried out as long as it is not considered dangerous, polluting or annoying.
  • Simple affidavit stating that you have the previous requirements to obtain a municipal license.

By minors

If the minor enters our country accompanied by both parents:

  • Valid Passport or Identity Card
  • Birth Certificate or Family Book, attaching three simple photocopies.

If the minor enters our country accompanied by only one of his parents:

  • Valid passport or Identity Card.
  • Birth Certificate or Family Book.
  • Death Certificate, if one of the parents is deceased, attaching three simple photocopies.
  • Notarial authorization of the father who does not travel, giving his consent for the minor’s departure, or the authorization of the competent Family Court, in original and three simple photocopies in either of the two cases.

If the minor is not traveling with his parents:

  • Passport or valid Identity Card depending on the country of destination.
  • Birth Certificate or Family Book, attaching three simple photocopies.
  • Death Certificate, in case both parents are deceased, attaching three simple photocopies.
  • Notarial authorization of both parents, giving their consent for the minor’s departure, in original plus three simple photocopies.
  • Authorization of the corresponding Family Court, giving the consent for the minor’s trip, in original and three simple photocopies.

Entry Form

By plane

Its busiest international airport is called Arturo Merino Benítez (SCL). Here you arrive at its capital Santiago de Chile. It also has the following international airports:

  • Chacalluta (ARI)
  • Diego Aracena (IQQ)
  • El Tepual (PMC)
  • La Araucanía (ZCO)
  • Mataveri (IPC)

The most important steps are Los Libertadores or Cristo Redentor, Paso Cardenal Samoré, Paso Jama, Integración Austral and Paso Pehuenche. It is important to bear in mind that all of them cross the Andes mountain range, so they are at different heights. It is very common that in winter season, border crossings close due to heavy snowfalls on both sides of the mountain.

It is advisable to read all the details of each step to take into account its weather forecast, altitude at which it is located, opening hours (not all are open 24 hours a day), route status and usual delays for those dates.

In the case of traveling in a private vehicle, the form called Temporary Exit and Admission of Vehicles (Chilean-Argentine Agreement) must be completed.

Border Crossings Bolivia and Chile

These countries are connected through the Colchane pass which usually opens from 8.30 to 20.30.

In the case of traveling in a private vehicle, the form called Temporary Import Title must be completed.

Should I request a visa to enter Chile?

Some passes have to request a single or multiple route to enter Chilean territory, this is due to the countries where citizens have to be visas does not have agreements with Chile. Below is the documentation that must be attached to said request:

  • Passport or national identity document: they will have to be in force until the end of your stay in Chile.
  • Reasons for the trip: When we apply for the tourist visa, we have to present to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the reason for the trip, the duration of our stay and the date of arrival and departure from the country.
  • Return ticket: it will also be mandatory to present the return ticket to our country of origin or to a third party, in which case we will also have to prove that we have authorization to enter that country.
  • Refugees and stateless persons: tourists in any of these special situations will have to obtain the approval of tourism after consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Economic solvency: tourists from countries without diplomatic relations with Chile will have to prove economic solvency to be able to cross the border.
  • Letter of Invitation: it may be from a natural person or from a company located in Chile.
  • Hotel reservation: it will only be necessary to present a form that accredits the accommodation reservation if you do not have a family member, friend or acquaintance in Chile.

  • Afghanistan, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
  • Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Brunei, and Burindi.
  • Cape Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chad, China, Congo (Brazzaville), North Korea and Cuba.
  • Djibouti.
  • Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Eritrea and Ethiopia.
  • Georgia and Ghana.
  • India, Iran and Iraq.
  • Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Lesotho, Lebanon, Liberia, and Libya.
  • Mali, Morocco, Mauritania and Mozambique.
  • Namibia, Nepal and Nigeria.
  • Oman, Pakistan and Palau.
  • Qatar
  • Senegal, Sierra Leone, Syria, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and Sudan.
  • Tanzania, Tiyikistan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
  • Venezuela*
  • Yemen.

* Venezuelans must be visas for the number of immigrants who are entering Chile in recent months

  • Albania, Germany, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia and Austria.
  • Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, and Burkina Faso.
  • Canada, Cyprus, Colombia, South Korea, Costa Rica, Cote d’Ivorre and Croatia.
  • Denmark and Dominica.
  • Ecuador, El Salvador, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United States and Estonia.
  • Russian Federation, Fiji, the Philippines, Finland, France and Fyrom.
  • Gabon, Gambia, Grenada, Greece, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, and Guyana.
  • Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region only), and Hungary.
  • Comoros Islands, Indonesia (only in case of simple visa for a maximum period of 60 days), Ireland, Iceland, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Solomon Islands, Israel and Italy.
  • Jamaica and Japan.
  • Kiribati.
  • Laos, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania and Luxembourg.
  • Macao (applies to nationals of the Special Administrative Region), Madagascar, Malaysia, Malawi, Maldives, Malta, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, and Myanmar.
  • Nuaru, Nicaragua, Norway, New Zealand,
  • Netherlands, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Poland and Portugal.
  • Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Romania and Rwanda.
  • Samoa, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Marino, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Saint See, Sao Tome and Principe, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden. Switzerland, Suriname and Swaziland.
  • Thailand, East Timor, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey and Tuvalu.
  • Ukraine, Uganda, Uruguay. Vanuatu and Vietnam.
  • Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Should I request a visa to enter Chile?

Yes, because it is a conditional authorization granted by a country, typically to a foreign citizen, to enter and stay temporarily in that country, since Chilean policy requires it, those countries with which it does not have an agreement must have a visa to enter the Chilean country.
