This process is extremely important, since the National Transit Agency (ANT) It establishes that no person can drive vehicles without first possessing the enabling titles issued by the competent traffic authorities of Ecuador.

A driver’s license can be valid for up to 5 years, before its expiration date. After this time, said license must be renewed to circulate normally as established by law.

There are two types of renewal, since licenses in Ecuadorian territory are divided into two types: non-professionals and professionals. Requirements to Renew License

  4. Original license expired.
  5. Proof of having passed the psychosensometric test. This exam can be done through the Aneta web portal and has a cost of $ 20 dollars. Or you can also do it at the Centers of the National Transit Agency at no cost.

Generally the procedure consists of:

  • Take a turn on the website of the national transit agency.

Professional licenses are defined by the following categories:

  • (A1)

For police vehicles, military and municipal ambulances, and in general any vehicle that provides service to the Ecuadorian State for security and emergency control.

  • (D)

For passenger service (Interprovincial, intra-provincial, intracontrol, intraregional and independent) and for vehicles of the Ecuadorian State included in type B and not considered in type C1.

  • (D1)

Institutional, tourism and school children up to 45 passengers.

  • (AND)

For heavy and extra heavy trucks with or without a trailer of more than 3.5 tons, trailers, tankers, public platforms, own account, dump trucks, other trucks and state vehicles with these characteristics.

  • (E1)

For rail cars, motor pumps, trolleybuses, railways, to transport dangerous goods or substances and other special vehicles.

  • (G)

For agricultural machinery, heavy machinery, truck equipment (motor graders, tractors, forklifts, backhoes, mechanical shovels, etc.).

Requirements (Documents) corresponding in this case:

  1. (B)

This type of license is granted to users who require the license for the first time. (For cars and trucks with a trailer of up to 1.75 tons of payload owned by the State, they may be driven by officials and public servants who have a type B license in the circumstances and complying with the requirements determined in the applicable regulations issued by the control authority.   • If you have a license from another category, you must present the original document.

  1. (F)

It is granted to users who require the license for the first time. (Automotive up to 3500 kg).

  • If you have a license from another category, you must present the original document.
  • Original of the identification document in which the majority of age is validated and having approved the basic education, otherwise the respective certificate will be requested.
  • Original blood type certificate or card issued by the Red Cross issued by the Ecuadorian Red Cross
  • Original of the non-professional driver certificate type A, issued by the Driving Schools approved by the ANT (Documentation issued by the Driving School)
  • Original proof of payment

Steps to renew driver’s license

In order to renew your license, you must have the requirements already mentioned above, in this way you must follow the following procedures to carry out the renewal in a successful way.

  1. You must enter the ANT (National Transit Agency) website.

License types

There are 2 types of licenses that it is important for you to know so that you can identify which type you are going to request according to your case. In case of renewal it is not necessary since it is already identified in the license that is about to expire.

Non-professional licenses:

  • Type A licenses: This allows you to drive mopeds, motorcycles, tricar, quad bikes.
  • Type B License: Allows you to drive cars and trucks with trailers up to 1.75 tonnes of payload.
  • Type F License: Allows you to drive special cars that are adapted for people who suffer from some type of disability.

Professional Licenses:

  • Type A1 License: Allows you to drive motorcycle taxis or commercial service tricycles.
  • Type C License: Allows you to drive conventional, executive taxis, light or mixed vans up to 3,500 kg, up to 8 passengers; passenger transport vehicles with no more than 25 seats.
  • Type C1 License: Allows you to drive police vehicles, military and municipal ambulances, and in general any vehicle of the Ecuadorian State.
  • Type D License: Allows you to drive passenger service cars (intracantonal, interprovincial, intra – provincial, intraregional and on your own).
  • Type D1 License: Allows driving school, institutional and tourism cars, up to 45 passengers.
  • Type E License: Allows you to drive heavy and extra heavy trucks with or without a trailer of more than 3.5 tons, trailers, dump trucks, tankers, public platforms, own account, other trucks and state vehicles with these characteristics.
  • Type E1 License: Allows you to drive railways, rail cars, motor pumps, trolleybuses, to transport dangerous goods or substances and other special vehicles.
  • Type G License: Allows you to drive agricultural machinery, heavy machinery, road equipment (tractors, graders, backhoes, forklifts, mechanical shovels and others).

Professionals

It is important to be up to date with the requirements that you are going to request before carrying out any type of procedure. In this case, we will talk about the professional license and the requirements to obtain it, either for the first time or to renew it.

The professional license is used to drive conventional, executive taxis, light or mixed vans up to 3,500 kg, up to 8 passengers; passenger transport vehicles with no more than 25 seats and vehicles included in type B.

To obtain the renewed document:

One of the fundamental requirements for obtaining this license is the approval of a course that lasts approximately. You must complete the course that lasts six months with 480 hours of classes. It is also important to mention that the training centers must be authorized by the National Transit Agency.

Other requirements for obtaining the license are:

  • The minimum age they must be is 18 years and older.
  • Know how to read and write (Spanish).
  • Present original of the citizenship card.
  • Present the original of the voting certificate.
  • Original type C learner permit.
  • Original and copy of the type C professional driver’s certificate.
