The National Army, the Navy and the Air Force constitute the Military Forces. If the National Police join this group, the Public Force or what was formerly known as the Armed Forces, attached to the Ministry of Defense, is constituted. The main difference between the Military Forces and the Police, lies in the military essence of the former: Army, Navy, Air Force; and the category of armed civilian body of the second.

By Constitution The Military Forces have the responsibility to guarantee national sovereignty and territorial integrity, while the National Police must be responsible for controlling internal order.
