The quality tools, are known as written techniques or procedures that will help a company measure the quality of service or the quality of the product. It will allow you to solve problems related to quality and better plan your processes to carry out an improvement in productivity and customer services.

Quality problems are often presented as losses, for example defective products, retests, and the losses they cause. They are basic because they do not require advanced knowledge of statistics to apply it. As we already know, these tools will be used to improve the quality system.

These tools will be used to develop better quality control through measurements, analysis and suggestions for solutions to problems that may arise and that affect the performance of the organization’s procedure itself.

  • Identify the most important problems on which improvement efforts should focus and determine in what order to solve them.
  • Provide a means to evaluate whether or not a manufacturing process, service or administrative process is in a state of statistical control, that is, to evaluate the stability of a process.

All these objectives are usually very valuable when it comes to putting into practice quality tools. It should be noted that quality control is based on a set of tools and mechanisms to be able to identify errors in a product in the best possible way.

What are the Quality Tools?

There are currently seven (7) quality tools. This allows people who make use of them to choose the one that best suits their needs. Let us remember that these tools are used to improve the quality of the company and therefore, the quality of care.

The seven basic tools are in contrast to the more advanced statistical methods, such as survey sampling, acceptance sampling, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, multivariate analysis, and the various methods developed in the field of Operations Research.

  • Cause Diagram – Effect. Identify possible causes of an effect or problem and classify ideas into useful categories.
  • Flowchart (Can be substituted for stratification or run chart). Shows the sequence of steps and branching possibilities that exist in a process that transforms one or more inputs into one or more outputs.
  • Verification or check sheets. Check sheets are used to organize the facts in a way that facilitates the collection of a set of useful data on a potential quality problem.
  • Pareto chart. Pareto charts are a particular form of a vertical bar chart and are used to identify the few key sources responsible for most of the effects of problems..
  • Histograms. They are a special form of bar chart and are used to describe the central tendency, spread, and shape of a statistical distribution.
  • Diagrams or control chart. SThey are used to determine whether a process is stable or has predictable behavior. The upper and lower limits of the specifications are based on the pre-established requirements. They reflect the maximum and minimum allowed values.
  • Scatter diagrams. Represent pairs ordered (X, Y) and are often called correlation diagrams, as they are intended to explain a change in the dependent variable Y relative to an observed change in the independent variable X.


Good quality is a condition that every service must have in order to achieve greater performance in its activity and durability, complying with standards and rules necessary to meet customer needs.
