Documentation requested

  1. Procedures FOR EXTENSION B, C, D

(Motorcycle, cars and trucks, light trucks up to eight tons and buses up to sixteen passengers):

  • Original and copy of valid ID
  • Original and copy of valid passport – if you are a foreigner
  • Original and copy of valid immigration card – if you are a foreigner
  • Present physical license (it will be attached to the file)
  • Theoretical and practical certificate of driving schools authorized by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority, in which it is accredited that the applicant is fit to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the application
  • Perform visual and auditory validation
  • Perform theoretical and practical validation
  • Must be safe and secure with the ATTT
  • Payment, B /. 40.00 (includes visual, auditory, theoretical and practical validation)
  • Bring appropriate vehicle.
  1. EXTENSION PROCEDURES E1, E2, E3

(Public passenger transport vehicle: selective transport, buses with up to sixteen passengers, buses with more than sixteen passengers):

  • Be of Panamanian nationality
  • Have at least two (2) years of experience with type “C” or “D” licenses.
  • Original and copy of valid ID
  • Present physical license (it will be attached to the file)
  • Theoretical and practical certificate of driving schools authorized by the Transit and Land Transport Authority, in which it is accredited that the applicant is fit to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the application
  • Negative result in the examination on the consumption of narcotics issued in Laboratories authorized by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority. (It must indicate the full name of the user, identity card or passport number, stamp and fresh signature of the doctor). Valid for no more than six (6) months.
  • Certificate of physical and mental health, fresh signature and stamp of the doctor. (It must indicate the user’s full name, identity card or passport number, stamp and fresh signature of the doctor).
  • Perform visual and auditory validation
  • Perform theoretical and practical validation
  • Must be safe and secure with the ATTT
  • Payment, B /. 40.00 (includes visual, auditory, theoretical and practical validation)
  • Bring appropriate vehicle

  1. EXTENSION PROCEDURES F, I

(Unit trucks over eight tons and buses over sixteen passengers, heavy equipment):

  • Have at least two (2) years of experience with type “C” or “D” licenses
  • Original and copy of valid ID
  • Original and copy of valid passport – if you are a foreigner
  • Original and copy of valid immigration card – if you are a foreigner
  • Present physical license (it will be attached to the file)
  • Theoretical and practical certificate of driving schools authorized by the Transit and Land Transport Authority, in which it is accredited that the applicant is fit to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the application
  • Negative result in the examination on the consumption of narcotic drugs issued in Laboratories authorized by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority. (It must indicate the user’s full name, identity card or passport number, stamp and fresh signature of the doctor). Valid for no more than six (6) months.

(Combination trucks, dangerous cargo transport vehicles):

  • Have at least two (2) years of experience with type “F” licenses
  • Original and copy of valid ID
  • Original and copy of valid passport – if you are a foreigner
  • Original and copy of valid immigration card – if you are a foreigner
  • Present physical license (it will be attached to the file)

  • Negative result in the examination on the consumption of narcotic drugs issued in Laboratories authorized by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority.   1. PROCEDURES FOR EXTENSION J:

The Terrestrial Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) officially authorized the company Transporte Masivo de Panamá, which operates the metrobús, to provide specialized training and training to the operators of the transportation system to obtain the new type ‘J’ license.

With Resolution AL-142 of 2016, the company is an ‘authorized agent’ to provide the training in two months that, according to the Government, will allow the re-training of 2,983 operators. Through Executive Decree 110 of April 13, 2016, the Government incorporated the ‘J’ license, exclusively for operators, by modifying the Traffic Regulations. Such requirements will be:

  • Be Panamanian or Panamanian, over twenty-three (23) years old.
  • Have a type “C” or “D” license
  • Original and copy of valid ID
  • Original license
  • Not have accumulated more than thirty-five (35) points for traffic violations in the two (2) years prior to the request.
  • Original certificate of driving school for theory and practice of the specialized training center for operators of the New Massive Passenger Mobilization System of the Metropolitan Area (METROBUS), issued by Transporte Masivo de Panamá, SA, as authorized agent by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority. The certificate includes a course approved by the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama. Important: You can attach a copy with a true copy of its original signed by the operator, upon presentation of the original document.
  • Present negative results of antidoping or narcotics, it must be issued in Laboratories authorized by the Transit and Land Transportation Authority. It must indicate the full name of the user, identity card number for nationals or passport number for foreigners, stamp and fresh signature of the medical technologist or clinical laboratory technician. Valid for no more than six (6) months.
  • Certificate of good physical and mental health issued by a doctor. It must indicate the full name of the user, identity card number for nationals or passport number for foreigners, stamp and fresh signature of the medical technologist or clinical laboratory technician. Valid for no more than six (6) months.
  • Perform visual and auditory validations at the branch where you request the procedure.
  • To have approved the theoretical and practical validation in the specialized training center for operators of the New Massive Passenger Mobilization System of the Metropolitan Area (METROBUS), issued by Transporte Masivo de Panamá, SA, as authorized agent by the Transit and Land Transport Authority .

IMPORTANT: In case of not presenting their driver’s license due to loss or loss, the driver must complete a lost license form present at the branch where they will start their process.

Process the license extension

  • Go to the SERTRACEN branch (Central American Transit Service), the earlier you arrive the better).
  • Go to the window to deliver the documents

  • Pay at the checkout: Once all the tests have been correctly completed, you must go to the window to pay the corresponding $ 40.00, you must mention your identification number at the time of payment (wait for your receipt)
  • Wait for your license: Once all the exams have been completed and after having paid the $ 40.00, it only remains to wait to be called to withdraw your license, you must review it before leaving and verify that the data is correct.

If you are a foreigner, you must present a valid passport

If you are over 70 years old, you must bring a certificate of physical and mental health issued by a geriatrician or internal medicine doctor.

License extension costs

The payment of B / .40.00 must be made in the ATTT boxes located in the SERTRACEN branches where the procedure is carried out only in cash.

Users aged 70 or over will receive a 50% discount on the cost of their driver’s license according to article No. 6 of Gazette No. 26546 that promulgates Law 21 of May 28, 2010, where It is approved that: “The driver’s license for people over seventy years of age will be valid for two years, with the exception of the restrictions established by law and regulations for violations, and a discount of 50% of its cost.”
