  • The Comptroller General of the Republic.
  • The members of the National Council of the Magistracy.

  • The head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE)
  • The head of the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).
  • The Ombudsman.
  • The president of the Central Reserve Bank.
  • The superintendent of banking, insurance and private administrators of the Pension Fund.
  • The Superintendent of Tax Administration (Sunat). The owners and executive members of the organizations and directors of companies that work for the State.

The only way for those mentioned to apply to the mayor’s office of some municipality, is that they must resign in charge 180 days before the date established for the holding of the elections.

  • The regional presidents and vice presidents are left with no possibility of running unless they resign from their position 120 days before the scheduled date for the mayoral elections.
  • Nor may members of the armed forces and national police officers apply as long as they have not retired from office as established by law.

  • The third step is the registration of candidates by the political organization you represent. The deadline for this registration is 90 days before the scheduled date for the elections.

Mayoral elections in Peru

Municipal elections will be held on the first Sunday of October every five (5) years, each district constitutes an electoral district.
